“The Ride” is Drake’s way of steering the audience through three distinct stages in his career, all of which that detail the artist’s evolving outlook on wealth, fame, and fortune. “The Ride” is the last song on Drake’s 2012 sophomore album and a collaboration with Abel Tesfaye, who supplements the song with simplistic, yet melodic, background vocals. Surely one of the greatest pieces from two of Toronto’s biggest artist, this song will always serve as a glorious moment for all who forever rep OVOXO.

The Weeknd, who is credited as a writer, told Complex that it was his own song in 2013:

""House of Balloons" was actually supposed to have more songs than it does. I had so many records left, and then Take Care came through. ‘Crew Love,’ ‘Shot for Me,’ and ‘The Ride’ were supposed to be on House of Balloons. I wanted to come out with, like, fourteen records. I felt like ‘The Ride’ was the last one, and it wasn’t done yet. heard it and he was like, ‘This shit’s crazy.’ I had sung this melody — it wasn’t a hook, just an unfinished lyric. And he liked it so much, he was like, ‘I need to have this, man…. I know I’ve already taken “Shot for Me” and “Crew Love” and this and that.’ And me, I was hungry at that time. I was like, ‘Dude, take anything.’ At that point I was like, ‘Hell, yeah.’"

In 2011, Drake confirmed this song to be the final chapter in the trilogy which started with “The Calm” and continued with “The Resistance”.
