I don't always like DT, even though I loved them when I was younger. And yes, they are often impersonal and over-technical. But this song has always strung so many strings in me, it's always been close to me as a good friend who doesn't need many words, and almost two decades later I still listen to it regularly without getting tired of it. It's also one of the few DT songs that actually have deep and relatable lyrics, not something generic that a toddler could have written down.

And plebs complain that Dream Theater doesn't have soul in their music when songs like this exist

A day like today, my whole world has been changed - nothing you say, will help ease my pain.

Fantastic song. I love Dream Theater's ballads, LaBrie conveys a lot of emotion in his voice in the slower songs, reminds me of Jon Anderson in that way.

You would think Steven Wilson wrote this song, given it's depressing subject matter

This is one of the few DT songs I never liked. It always seems to be out of place and ruining the flow of whatever songs it comes in between in. I just don't like it.

I love the uneasy sound throughout. Gives it more of a personality conpared to the other straight foward ballads they've done.
