Jeremy Spencer of the REAL Fleetwood Mac was an avid devotee of Elmore James but James' influence has been prevalent throughout the English blues resurgence of the 60's. However, Elmore James is the real deal and he was able to sizzle and pop at the same time. Incredible musician and performer who was taken from us far too soon.

The REAL Fleetwood Mac--ouch! I love the older stuff, including a great deal of Spencer's tracks, but I don't think he ever got past mostly imitating James and wasn't a unique artist in his own right. That said, as a (relatively) young person who wasn't around for a lot of this music, I have to give Spencer credit for introducing me to the great Elmore James!

Peter Green was, of course, the Main Man of Fleetwood Mac. Spencer, I agree, was limited to playing Elmore James riffs but he did contribute two good songs on Kiln House, although that album highlighted Danny Kiirwan's superior guitar playing and evocative singing. Nobody played Elmore James's songs better than Elmore James himself. Truly gifted and taken too soon.

I was just coming to say how much I've been always caring about his guitar but yesterday, listening to his greats "Cry For Me Baby" and "Talk To Me Baby" I realized his voice was just as good as Howlin' Wolf and Lightnin' Hopkins and all the buddys. Maybe, even better but that's a passionate comment. That's what they call universal consciousness. I wish more people were into Elmore James.
