FUN FACT: In the "Fiona Apple ranked in order of rage" Spotify playlist, this is the Top 1 song.

This song matches the book „My Dark Vanessa“ so well. Especially since the female protagonist is a fan of Fiona Apple.

"you're wearing time, like a flowery crown. sitting that, sitting that big cat down. and i'm alone on the summit now. trying not to let my light go out" i think fiona was talking about strength and the hermit in tarot cards!!!

I agree it's great, but how is that so mind blowing thematically? There are songs about kids being burned to a crisp in Vietnam, friends ODing, serial killers hiding the corpses of their victims under the floorboards and so on.

Who cares about the themes? That's not exactly what I'm highlighting. I'm highlighting her way with words, how she delivers it and how she makes you, the listener, connect to what she's saying. "I grew concerned when I saw him start to covet you. When I learned what he did, I felt close to you." She paints a whole picture right there for you. She uses every word skillfully.

The drums here bring that same wonderful dread that "The Becoming" by Nine Inch Nails does. This is fucking incredible.

Nine Inch Nails, too. If Trent Reznor was only allowed to use physical instruments.
