Blows my mind how good the Flaming Groovies are. A ton of great songs, fantastic sound & as of 2013, still put on a cracking live show which I was lucky enough to enjoy in the front row. Their sound changed a bit with personnel changes but still remained a really strong band. I wish they'd have a song in a hit movie go viral or something, they deserve to be much more popular than they are.

These guys are unbelievably good, it’s a shame they aren’t nearly as well known as they should have been

Theres a lot of Hellacopters songs that kinda emulate Headin For The Texas Border and that's great!

One of the best bands from their era (which includes such "lightweights" as the beatles, the who, stones, kinks, etc)...so why such little love here? WHAT THE HELL?

Part-progenitors of both American punk AND American power pop, how cool is that?

First three albums are great. After that, not so much. The stuff that sounds like they are trying too hard to bring the 60s back is audibly pleasing but sort of weirds me out for some reason.

@smichaelgbg--- 13th Fl Elevators might have been the ultimate SF band if they were not from Texas. As for The Flamin' Groovies, they were pretty much out of step with the whole SF acid rock scene anyway. They just played the way they wanted to, regardless of west or east coast fashions. Good thing too-- their first 3 albums (with Roy Loney) contain some of the most direct and heart-felt rock'n'roll ever recorded, imo.

many critics consider the Flamin' Groovies to be one of the earliest West Coast pre-punk bands.

"Teenage Head" is really cool. I didn't like it much at first but it's grown on me.

The word underrated is often misused. Flamin' Groovies are rated highly by most knowledgeable rock-critics and the those rock-fans who've actually heard their best stuff. They are mostly unknown though these days.

Saw them mentioned in Hit List magazine years ago and found Jumpin in the night at my local hole in the wall. Very glad I did.

I just saw Cyril Jordan's new band, Magic Christian (named after the 1960's movie starring Peter Sellers, BadFinger and Ringo Starr). They are really good, I'm happy to say! Also in the band is drummer Clem Burke, from Blondie. They opened for the band Tinted Windows, which features James from Smashing Pumpkins, Adam from The Ivys & Fountains of Wayne, Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick and Taylor Hanson. The crowd really took to Magic Christian. Roy Loney was in the audience, and came onstage to sing back up for the final song of their set, the Groovies' classic power-pop anthem "Shake Some Action". Apparently, Tinted Windows have asked Magic Christian to open some shows for them in the months to come. It's a good match. Check out Tinted Windows here and Magic Christian on MySpace! :)

I just got into this band recently after hearing "I Can't Hide" on a power pop compilation. That's still my favorite song by them, but both "Shake Some Action" and their greatest hits album ("Groovies Greatest Grooves") are wonderful from start to finish. I wish I had known about this band before.

Flamin' Groovies do truly groove. I had the good fortune once to put a show together with the Flamin' Groovies and the Talking Heads. It was really a blast working with both bands.
