Saw Chuck Prophet cover this song two days in a row over the weekend, and now it's my new favorite power pop anthem

Not much like the Stone Roses really. This is informed by the British Invasion of the 60's (Beatles/Stones), and rock'n'roll in general, the Stone Roses, wonderful though they were, had a more dancey vibe maybe informed a bit by the Byrds and even some Jimmy Page guitar stylings later on. also, Ian Brown's voice is a little thin, restrained, aloof, timid even, whereas the vocals on this are really full-throated. The difference between trying to be cool (Brown) and enjoying the fun of unrestrained rock and roll music (the Groovies).

I know what you mean about The Stone Roses! Chiming guitar, throbbing bass and the punky attitude of the singer!

People saying it's not the groovies, not power pop, etc. Who are you people???? Comments offer endless entertainment.

I've listened to Cracker cover this song for years and never realized it wasn't their own!

The 'proper 'version as opposed to the nasty 80's rehash. I love this such a lot, and the way it just hangs there at the end without quite resolving is a masterstroke. Sublime

Strange I've never heard this before, probably right to classify it as garage rock. Power pop um, no.....
