On listening closer, I think it's that Nils is losing his voice a bit, which is unfortunate...he takes good care of it for sure though, these vocals are exceptionally difficult to do at his age. Hoping the sophomore album has a bit more of the weird folk melodies Sleepytime had on tracks like Ossuary, those seem to be the main difference. These rhythms feel like they're trying to recreate 1997's rhythms in a less batshit crazy form, which unfortunately makes the vocals quality difference more obvious. Still good stuff.

It feels like something is missing...good, but it doesn't measure up to Sleepytime Gorilla Museum somehow. Might have to approach it with a different mindset.

What a great album. it grows on you like pineapples on hay. But hey, it ain't enough I say! I need more music from these guys, in any sort of flesh. And I really don't care about the amount of idiocy they insert into it.

It's a great album, but I find it more similar to Idiot Flesh than Sleepytime... except perhaps on bits of The Gift, Undestroyed and Oxen of the Sun. It's more straight rock, so I agree it's been watered down a little more than i hoped, as OTC and Atomic Ape were to Estradasphere.
