WE DON’T TRUST YOU marks the full-length union of frequent collaborators Future and Metro Boomin. The project’s title calls to Metro’s legendary tag voiced by Future:
“If Young Metro don’t trust you, I’m gon' shoot you.”
WE DON’T TRUST YOU’s existence was revealed by Future in January 2023, with him stating:
I was like, look, the last time anybody’s really heard a song from me and Metro was “Mask Off.” So instead of us randomly throwing one or two songs we did on here, we got to wait and just give them a joint.
Later that year, Metro assured via Flaunt magazine that the album had its release window set within 2023.
As the album’s creation bled into 2024, Metro made a commitment to avoid shaving his beard until WE DON’T TRUST YOU’s completion.
On March 8, 2024, the album’s trailer was released to Future’s YouTube and Metro’s social media. The trailer not only revealed WE DON’T TRUST YOU’s March 22nd release date, but also set WE STILL DON'T TRUST YOU to release three weeks later on April 12th, 2024.
