Biography

    2000 – 2001 (1 year)

Girls@Play were a British girlband who scored two chart hits in 2001 and toured the country on many roadshows.

The band was famed for their overtly costumed 'characters' which saw them each take on a 'persona' such as car mechanic or NYPD cop. This lead to them being called the female answer to The Village People.

The band consisted of Lynsey Shaw, Rita Simons, Vicky Dowdall, Lisa-Jay White and Shelley Nash.

Two singles were released 'Airhead' (which hit #18 in the UK Top 40) and a cover of Mel & Kim's 1987 hit 'Respectable'. The band disbanded the following year.

Rita Simons is now an actress currently in EastEnders playing Roxy Mitchell.
