also: so cool that the last 6 songs – some of the best on the record – were all unlisted on the CD edition. especially in 1996, before the internet made it so easy to spread the word, it must've been like one surprise encore after another

really such a gift of a record, it's amazing that we got a big pro studio album with the classic lineup at the peak of their powers...it's amazing it went through so many iterations, and that at the eleventh hour the label insisted on *adding* songs to the end, all of which improves the overall effect (what was bob thinking, nixing "drag days" and "redmen?"). there are maybe 5 or 6 gbv records that sound like pure magic and nothing anybody else has ever done, and this might just be the most mysterious and stunning of all

grew on me steadily for 10 years and now I think it's probably the most consistent work bob put out

Honestly, this is the crown jewel, to me. It is a cohesive statement; and even though it might not hit the absolute high points that AL or B1000 do, that doesn't mean it isn't worth listening to just as much. I love this record.

it's so close between this one and alien lanes. do the collapse is my least favorite.

Never understood the love for this album. I actually liked Do the Collapse better.

this and the vaselines' comp are the absolute catchiest releases of the 1990s.. so overlooked :(

Alien Lanes and Bee Thousand are far more innovative by way of their experimentalism... but this record has far better songs. Probably my favorite GbV record.

hard to pick a favourite from all the classic line-up gbv albums, but if i had to i think this would probably be it.
