sincere question: has anyone, before or since, made a lo-fi album that feels anything like this one? the two or three albums GBV did on either side of it obviously feel the closest to me, but this one still feels to me like it’s on its own planet

Infectious pop, that drowned in "LO-FI" haze. Their best album depending on the day!

the scorched, caustic edge of <same place the fly got smashed> is the coolest, but the pop sensibilities of <bee thousand> and <alien lanes> just can't be beat...this one's where you go when you want both

extremely well put. I love Bee Thousand, Alien Lanes and Under the Bushes to bits but VoT is genuinely one of my favourites of their entire catalogue.

Definitely an underrated album in their discography. Rob Pollard even said that this album gave them the confidence to do Bee Thousand.
