God, this album is transcendental. I wouldn't be the same person without having this record in my life, so catchy and so raw at the same time. Hüsker Dü are just one of a kind really, pure genius. One of the most influential for sure.

Came here looking to find some interesting shit because of that "shoegaze" reference I keep reading, only to find it's the same boring 4/4 shit I've heard before in other Hüsker Dü records =\ And BTW, that Phil Spector's Wall of Sound technique can be found in older punk records (see Crass and John Loder), for the hipsters claiming the production of this album is avant-garde, ahead of its time and some other weird adjectives taken out of Portlandia.

This is easily one of the greatest punk records of all time. And it's better than the also astonishing Zen Arcade.

@noo_dog: Same here. I think this is Hüsker Dü's Murmur, both album covers pretty much have similiar colours :D

My favourite album of all time. This changed everything. Mould and Hart went head to head on songwriting, each pushing the other. This sounds like nothing before or after. The opening track makes you want to start a revolution.

I'm usually not one to complain about production, but the super treble guitars and the low-mixed vocals can make this a pretty grating listen at times....the songs are amazingly tight though, still a great album.

I consider this a perfect album. honestly perfect, and I don't say that about too many albums.

Those imperfections just add more feeling. The guitars whip my ears all over and that's a badass experience.

I guess some people just look for different things in songs than you do. For me, the "imperfections" are nowhere near as important as the songwriting, and the raw emotion that comes through even in such a poptastic song as Books about UFOs.

Worst Husker Du album. When people say "perfect album", do they seriously not hear the thin, shitty production, incomplete, half-finished performances, and atrocious vocals in "Girl Who Lives On Heaven Hill", "Perfect Example", and "59 Times The Pain"? This whole album sounds like a demo, unbelievable that this is considered one of their best
