“I am not a woman, I’m a god” serves as the lead single from Halsey’s fourth album "If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power". Halsey’s work has always been shaped by the duality between self-doubt and self-worship. In this song, they once again finds themselves bouncing between the extremes, going from saintly to vicious, which may allude to their bipolar nature.

It is on July 29, 2021, that the song was first teased in the second trailer for the film experience Halsey made for the album. The song title was announced in that same trailer, and then confirmed by Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant, on August 10, 2021.

In addition, the song is accompanied by a music video that features footage from the IMAX film experience.
