This is his best release. Only this and Lovesick, Broke & Driftin' are any good; the rest of his discography is garbage. But country music as a genre is all the richer for these two albums. This one is a pure country gem, and Hank III doesn't get better than the slow, haunting, spine-chilling "Angel of Sin". Hank sings a lot about the Devil. I think he's met him, and the meeting left an indelible mark on Hank.

I am a huge new-pop-kiddie country hater of the highest order. Because of this, it took me a while to branch from Bluegrass to some real country music. I was lucky to stumble into a collection of Hank III's stuff. What I really dig most so far with the first disc is that it's almost country-dub. Not in the new 'dub' suffix but in a Scratch Perry style of delay laden psycadellica.

Hank Williams III is no Senoir. But damn is he a hell of a singer. H3 or bust!
