i like the blue cover but i wish you motherfuckers would let the original artwork (red and green) be the main

Both are technically the 'original', as the falling angel was the original cover for the US release while the 'red and green' was for the Japan/Europe release. Unless by 'bue cover' you meant the remaster, in which case I'll just go ahead and shut up.

Loved this album when I first got it fourteen years ago, and I just adoree it more and more as time goes on. Went from a good Iced Earth album to ultimately my favourite.

This is probably their best record, or right there with Burnt Offerings. Gene Adams had a certain charm to his voice and Schaffer's riffs are at their most creative here. Some nicely balanced moments between those thrashy riffs and more overtly melodic passages... just a damn solid record.

The dislike for the vocals I can understand. It's like listening to "The Ripper" by Judas Priest for the first time. Shockingly different, but once you get into the album, (and you will, there's something for EVERYONE on this album) you get used to the vocals. I love the dark, somewhat black metal ish lyrics, especially for Color, so that at least helps me like the vocals. The album is like combining Powerglove with constant thrash metal riffs. Oddly appealing.

Gene's vocals are perfect speed/thrash vocals. They remind me of Helstar or Agent Steel.

I don´t understand the hatred towards Adam´s vocals. They are raw and high-pitched, his clean voice sounds great in e.g. "written on the walls" and I could not imagine anyone singing "what do I see on the icy plains?" apart from him - it´s just the perfect start for a great album. Love him or hate him, at least he did some very original and recognizable vocals on this record

I can't understand why this album is their most underrated.Every track on it kills, also Gene Adam is a solid vocalist.

Great guitar work, meh rhythm section, OK vocals. Pretty solid overall, not up to par with the next two albums though.

vocals sucks but in some songs they fit perfect like in iced earth, colors, when the night falls and in written on the walls, the vocals make them more evil

The worst from the first three, but I do love just how raw it sounds. You can feel the energy in the songs and it's evident from the songwriting that this band has a lot of tricks up it's sleeve.

First three tracks rule. They would be at their best on the first two albums if they had better singers, but still pretty good.
