Wow Magazine is such a mature release given how young the group members were at that point!

There's nothing wrong with Pyramid, just as much as there's nothing great about it either.

It's the first thing I've ever heard by Jaga Jazzist and I really loved it. Don't quite know what to expect for the rest of the discography now though.

Actually, theneedledrop reviewed One-Armed Bandit back in the day, in fact I discovered Jaga Jazzist through that review. He really liked the record, but the video is not available anymore. Presumably his interest diminished after Starfire, which he briefly touched upon in his YUNOREVIEW: JUNE 2015 video.

Seeing that they're pretty unique in their mixture of styles, that is probably going to be a tall order. But I agree with you that it would be awesome, their music can at times be a little distanced. Probably a general thing for me with "jazz", coming more from a rock and classical background. If you're into jazz-infused punk, I can suggest the band "pardans". Beth Gibbons new record also has a little of that mix too, while being sonically very different. Although they're both nothing like Jaga. I'm kinda grasping at straws here haha :)

It seems like their older album 'The Living Room Hush' might be more my style, so I think I'll check out their older work too. & awesome, thanks for the recs -- will check both of them out. Pardans sounds cool from what I've heard. They remind me a bit of Zu if you've heard of them. I did find the one album by James Holden & The Animal spirits to hit the spot -- it has some free-jazzy sax wailing on some tracks.

I've known about Lars Horntveth's solo album Pooka for years and loved it, but I had no clue he was a frontman to an utterly incredible band until recently

#acidjazz #electronica #experimentalrock #jazz #nujazz #postrock

I used to think One-Armed Bandit was a bit boring until I saw them perform tracks from it live at The Barbican, London. Now I love it. As much as I adore What We Must, The Stix and A Livingroom Hush, they all have a tendency to become a bit muddled near the end. One-Armed Bandit is no exception, though songs like Dance! Music! Drama! and Toccata mean so much more to me having seen them live. Truly, Jaga Jazzist are an exceptional musical force. Can't wait to see them again on the 25th October (2013).

I literally came here to say that One-Armed Bandit is my least favorite album of theirs, it's kind of long and boring, I'd rather listen to The Stix or What We Must

Absolutely one of the most refreshing and talented groups to come out in a long time. They're my go to band as their music always is in sync with how I'm feeling or want to feel. Back in the day ECM label had Jazz's most talented artists and Jaga would have been a perfect fit. I'm still amazed, no matter how many times I listen to their music just how great they are. There's just no one out there that comes close to their music. "What We Must" is a pure 100% masterpiece!

Totally slept on One-Armed Bandit (listened to it once and it didn't do anything for me, meant to listen to it a few more times but it was lost in the shuffle) but I'm glad that I decided to come back to it. It's wonderful in unexpected ways.
