Double motherfucking Trouble, James Blood Ulmer! Anyhow, MisterJunior puts it very nicely in a wonderful comment below.

Purveyor of some of the sickest Jazz/Funk/Blues you'll ever want to hear. I'm particularly fond of Odyssey, Black Rock and Harmolodic Strings with Guitar but you can't go wrong with much of what he's recorded. Oh, and Music Speaks Louder Than Words -- an album where he plays Ornette Coleman material -- is really terrific as well. Do yourself a big favor and pick up anything and everything you can find by this guy, dating back to his initial work as a member of Ornette's band in the early/mid-70s. I also recommend his trio with George Adams and Norris Jones, Phalanx.

here is an interview i heard when he was on the leonard lopate show on wnyc. much to his publicists dismay he kept playing songs that were not on the cd he was supposed to be promoting, including the first time he publicly performed the survivors of the hurricane song. he makes lopate seem so square. http://www.wnyc.org/shows/lopate/episodes/2006/01/31

i ran into blood ulmer recently (literally, at a aisle corner in a grocery) and humbly told him that i loved his music. he replied with a laugh, that's funny, i love it too.
