I always wanted Sonic Youth to do an acoustic album, this is sort of what i'd imagined it to be like, if there were another acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, and hand drums of course.

Sterling Smith is unironically one of the most successful people I’ve ever known. Puts out records all financed by himself, completely independent and uncompromising, gets to travel and plays with musicians all over the world enjoying himself, writes poetry and does film photography, has a beautiful fiancée, actually managed to gain critical acclaim and fans all over the globe despite being a total recluse for the most part of his musical career, not attached to anyone or anything and just being himself and realising his own potential. What else could one want? He’s literally living the dream.

oh, by the way, everyone should check out Maze of the Phantom. it sounds nothing like any other Jandek album that I know of, and it’s so beautiful, so many musicians and textures that it really does feel like a mystical garden maze to get lost in.

It seems appropriate that it took over a year of trying to finally receive some albums from Corwood Industries. Obviously nothing more than a coincidence (well...many coincidences & the world going mental the last few years) although even the journey to acquiring Jandek albums was quite unusual. And that's before we've even uttered a word about the enigmatic figure behind the Jandek project, Sterling Smith himself.

Dude has tried to send me a bunch of albums I bought on his side, so, they got lost amid nowhere, completely untraceable. I guess that is the way it should be. God bless.

The year is 2020 and I still haven't finished his discography. There's a part of me whos happy about that, because I want to live in a world where there will always be a new Jandek record to listen to. So, finishing his discography will be a really bittersweet experience, as I know that one day it will happen. On a side note, I pretty much listened to everything he released from 1978 until 2004. Today I listened to "Twelfth Apostle" for the first time, while half-wake half asleep; it was quite the experience. There's something about the raw nature of his music that makes my heart beats a little bit faster and the world move slower. That's what makes him so special for me, it doesn't matter how much time it pass, whenever I listen to a Jandek record, it feels like experience his music for the first time. You can be frightned, confused or shocked while listening to him, but you can't never be bored, as you never know what he will do next.

by the way, did anyone even notice that he has released his first studio album in 5 years?? It's called The Ray and it consists of one 61-minute psychedelic rock-ish piece. I haven't listened to it yet, but I have an mp3 I could share.

it's on soulseek and has been round those parts for quite a while. i posted this a while back when it was a bit harder to acquire. if you're having serious trouble with navigating soulseek i can send it, sure, but i don't think it'll be an issue

y'all should look into the song I Knew You Would Leave, the Rep himself has stated that he considered it the Jandek masterpiece. the poetry is fucking brilliant, so much transcendent emotion achieved with such a desolate, bare-bones setup. it's just this one open chord and his voice, but the pure emotion he channels is just unbelievable.
