It is big music - lots of keyboards and guitars, with strong melody and lyrical sentiment, bringing together the very best in 1990s music technology with remiscences of traditional prog pomp and whimsy. JANISON EDGE is comparable to other great bands like ARENA, LANDMARQ and SHADOWLAND.
Janison Edge was formed by Sue Element (vocals) and Mike Varty (keys/producer) in about 1996 with a view to writing a prog rock concept album. Over the next year or so they wrote and recorded the first few songs of the album in demo form, and as the writing progressed they cast about to see who would be interested in completing the line-up ready for recording. First up was Ian Salmon on guitar, someone who is probably better known as the bass player for Arena these days but was at the time the bass player in Shadowland. Mike being the keyboard player in Shadowland had heard him play guitar at a festival in Rotterdam and been seriuosly impressed. Next came Dave Wagstaffe from Landmarq who Mike and Sue had met on various Shadowland excursions, a top notch experienced drummer. It was actually during the recording of the Drums for the album that Paul Brown's name came up in conversation, and he completed the 5 piece with a bit of swift learning of the songs. The album was mixed by at Thin Ice studio by Karl Groome, mastered at Abbey Road and released 1st February 1999, totalling 9 songs, 65 mintes.
The first and so far only album has elements of the Genesis sound of "Selling England By The Pound" era and will appeal to fans not only of the 90's Neo-Prog scene but also those who like female vocalists such as Annie Haslam (RENAISSANCE) and Tracy Hitchings(LANDMARQ). "The Services Of Mary Goode" is an album I can highly recommend and is a must for all lovers of Progrock.
