Biography

Released September 1, 2002 Amalgamated Sons of Rest is the name of a one-off project by American songwriters Will Oldham and Jason Molina, along with Scottish colleague Alasdair Roberts. The collaboration yielded one eponymous EP. Will Oldham and Jason Molina have both performed under many flags, Pyramid Electric, Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric co. are but some of the moniker’s of Jason Molina and Bonnie Prince Billie and various permutations of the Palace name, including Palace Brothers, Palace Songs, and Palace Music are Will Oldham’s.

This album sees these two American artists joined by the Scottish artist Alasdair Roberts of Appendix Out and the resulting amalgamation is a dream trio for many fans. The trio do not deviate very far from the channels they have established in their previous side projects either musically (much of it sounds like Songs: Ohia’s Didn’t it Rain) or lyrically, with the content ranging from death to yearning with some whaling thrown in, but for fans of any of the artists involved this album is a must have and the last hidden track at 15:20 of Jennie blackbird’s blues is a gem proving what an outstanding coming together of artists this album can be at its best moments.
