Atone and Brighten are up there with any of his work from the last 20 years. Brilliant songs.

I came to say the entire opposite on this album. This album has so much blues, so much 60’s and 70’s sound it is more than you can chew. If you enjoy anything Cream, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Cream did at their beginnings you get to understand the feel and the sound of this album. The incorporation of keyboards, acoustic sounds, and the signature melodies of Jerry are there. Yes it is not heavy as we’re used to and it’s not meant to be. I’m just glad he came up with something entirely different, yet still solid. He is happier and the sound of this album reflects it. And for me this album doesn’t sound like Rainier Fog, both are different experiences. Yet I understand it is a grower, you’ll get to love it with each listen. There is no weak Jerry Cantrell album, all of them are solid, with a different purpose and sound. Those are my two cents.

I don't disagree, I honestly set myself up for disappointment expecting a similar sound to stuff from 20 years ago and stuff he made when he was in a super super dark place. I'd definitely rather have a happier Jerry though even if the music is different. I agree about Rainier Fog too, I didn't really hear anything on this that sounds like that at all. I'm gonna have to listen to this album more to get a better feel for it I'm sure. Jerry can do no wrong in my eyes

have to say i'm kinda disappointed. came into this expecting more stuff like Atone but it's the complete opposite. just not feeling this like I did with his first two albums, although i'm not dumb enough to recognize that he's changed a lot and he's grown a lot over the years and so has his style. just was hoping for more along the lines of Atone and less along the lines of Brighten. maybe after a few more listens i'll start to feel it but for now i'm just not
