Biography

Joe Acheson is a composer, musician, sound designer, music producer, radio producer/presenter, and also the man behind orchestral breaks outfit Hidden Orchestra (formerly known as Joe Acheson Quartet, now signed to independent Brighton label Tru Thoughts Recordings).

He has provided original music and sound design for a wide variety of radio plays, programmes and other projects as part of independent production company Loftus Audio, also working on recording, editing and mixing. 2009 saw Joe's debut as a documentary producer with a feature on Scottish urban music for BBC 1Xtra, Brave New Beat, presented by MC Profisee - his next is a feature on the the School for the Visually Impaired in Jyväskylä, Finland, which he is also presenting - to be broadcast on BBC World Service on New Year's Day.

In addition to work for film, TV, radio and international advertising campaigns, Joe is a music producer and remixer, recording bands and artists in his Edinburgh studio, and has recently taken on the role of curating a channel for TenTracks.co.uk, releasing beatcentric music by contemporary underground artists from around the globe.

His latest large-scale composition commission was to create and produce the music for the UK's largest ever puppet, the 8m tall Big Man Walking, a huge outdoor show touring Scotland in 2009, which features many of the same musicians as the Hidden Orchestra album. This debut album, Night Walks, is due for release on Tru Thoughts Recordings on 20th September 2010.
