He seems to so often get written up (or written off) as "the opera guy" of minimalism. Despite the fact that I think his operas are really cool, this is pretty unfortunate given how consistently inventive and varied so much of his chamber music is - indeed arguably he's a lot more versatile in his later chamber works than the likes of Glass or Reich who haven't really done much very striking in the last few decades. His "Book of Alleged Dances" for string quartet and prepared piano is an underrated gem of his, up there with Bartok and Shostakovitch in terms of what it does with the string quartet form while remaining musical at its core.

Discovered him nearly 15 years ago playing Civilization IV. Came across this genius again watching BBC documentary movie "In their own words: 20th century composers" and Grand Pianola music struck me so much that I can't stop listening this. Real masterpiece in form and composition.

"The Dharma at Big Sur/My Father Knew Charles Ives" is amazing. One of my favourite works.

His work entitled "Harmonium" was used as the main theme of the overture of the Edinburgh Festival 2015 edition. It was the first time I listened to it and got hooked by it!

Just saw Luca Guadagnini's film "Io sono l'Amore" yesterday, had to give an extatic gasp when the opening credits started rolling to the sound of Harmonielehre. God, I'd forgotten how much I loved this piece.
