Very beautiful ballad on an album full of them. Coltrane was definitely in his romantic phase at this time. Who tagged this as "avant-garde"? Obviously they haven't heard Coltrane's later stuff, haha!

Just perfect for a gloomy rainy saturday like this one. Kenny Drew's performance is really sweet. This Coltrane's or even coltranian mood, it is unique melancholia without even an inch of bitterness but full of quiet solemn happiness.

i'm hearing trane solo...and so mellow...with nice accompany by donald byrd (tpt)...red garland (p)...paul chambers (b)...also love the johnny hartman vocal version w/trane on sax...from the john coltrane-johnny hartman LP...a classic which btw...contains the perfection "my one and only love"...dubbed the most romantic jazz track of all time...

Divine intervention? Call it nothing more than simple coincidence to wake from this Autumn’s slumber to this track playing. A vision; more, an essence of what and was: conjured unlike any I've had in quite a while. I wonder what sort of night lies ahead. [11pm, GMT -5]

Hey, this recording is not the Lush Life with Johnny Hartman singing. It's OK cause it is John Coltrane in a bluesy mood. Still the best in my opinion.

This is the grown up version of the post war mid century American Dream, but from Paris or was it Rome, no OK it was some small dive, there I'll be along with the rest of those who are lonely too.....just like those "old movies'.....real deep, maybe to deep for me. No Give Me the Good Life, as in Life's Great.....see ya'
