John Mellecamp is on the corner of the transition of various trends, like a younger brother of Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, exposes the wounds of American culture in her lyrics, singing the daily hopes and frustrations of a youth "Hold on to 16 as long as you can ". But, on the other side behind a new blend of country and folk with the weight of Ken Aronoff beats, guitars and vocals with drives. The album opens with "Hurts So Good" great success that triggered the entire album, bringing critical attention that until then had not been interested. But "Jack and Diane" is the greatest moment of all his work, and anticipates the arrival of a new generation of artists Jon Bon Jovi Melissa Ethreridge until they have absorbed her way of singing and composing and even their arrangements.
