Kanye enlists the help of friends and frequent collaborators GLC and Consequence to discuss the plight of the black man in the ghettos of Chicago. ‘Ye also discusses his work as a ghostwriter, explaining the lack of recognition he encountered, and how his demo tapes would get rejected – at the time, he was thought of more as a producer/writer than a rapper.
This song samples Marvin Gaye’s “Distant Lover”
The song was originally made for GLC but Ye’s manager Plain Pat convinced him to keep it on the album.
On June 26, 2020 during the #WESTDAYEVER, Kanye showed a previously-unreleased music video for “Spaceship” on his website. In the tweet announcing the video, Ye said:
"UNRELEASED SPACESHIP VIDEO WITH GLC AND CONS
THIS IS WHAT WE DREAMED OF BACK THEN

#WESTDAYEVER"
The video, featuring Ye, Consequence and GLC as workers at the GAP, comes on the same day as Kanye announcing his YEEZY brand’s partnership with the GAP for more affordable attire from the brand.
