"The Sensual World" is a captivating song by the talented English singer-songwriter Kate Bush. Released in September 1989, it served as the title track and first single from her album of the same name. The single made its mark on the UK Single Chart, reaching a respectable position at No. 12.

What makes "The Sensual World" even more intriguing is its fascinating backstory. Originally, Kate Bush intended to set Molly Bloom's powerful speech from James Joyce's iconic novel Ulysses to music. The song was meant to bring Molly Bloom's character to life, as she steps out of the pages of the book and into the real world, experiencing the overwhelming sensuality around her. However, due to complications in securing the rights from the Joyce estate, Bush had to alter her approach.

Years later, in 2011, the Joyce estate granted permission for the material, allowing Bush to fulfill her original vision. She re-recorded the song as "Flower of the Mountain," which was featured on her album Director's Cut.

Musically, "The Sensual World" incorporates a mesmerizing hook in its chorus that draws inspiration from a traditional Macedonian piece called "Antice, Džanam, Dušice." The melody is skillfully played on uilleann pipes by Irish musician Davy Spillane, adding a unique and enchanting element to the song.

With its rich artistic concept and captivating musical arrangement, "The Sensual World" remains a timeless piece in Kate Bush's impressive repertoire.
