The album was produced by Del Rey, Zachary Dawes, Loren Humphrey, Mike Dean, Barrie-James O'Neill, and Rick Nowels.

The album artwork that includes 2 alternate covers includes photos shot by previous collaborator, Neil Krug.

It was preceded by four songs: Wildflower Wildfire, Text Book, Blue Banisters and Arcadia , and is composed of 15 different tracks.

The album contains a handful of unreleased tracks from previous records, namely Nectar of the Gods (fka Color Blue/Wild on You), Living Legend, and Cherry Blossom. Thunder and Dealer were made in collaboration with The Last Shadow Puppets.

“Blue Banisters” is seen as a folk, pop, jazz, and americana record. People also associate this as a “break-up” album.
