Still find the transition from blackgaze to alt-rock with some electronica elements to be one of the most surreal moments in a band,.

It's not as drastic a style shift as some bands that started metal, but going from the more atmospheric black metal style of the S/T to the wtf electronic bonus disc of "Wildhund" is a trip

I can't believe there's another album in the works – and that it's apparently pretty much done? It feels like Wildhund just came out. From Lantlôs' FB page: "8/12 tracks are completely finished at this point". There's going to be a range of moods and feelings captured on it too: "style-wise, the album is more diverse than the previous ones. The songs just sort of "happened" and are more spontaneous than on all my albums before... Still, there is an overlying idea over everything and it's a very Siegenhort/Lantlos album! But there are just more "colours" so to speak. You will see!"

It's a pretty serious digression from the lantlos that a lot of people knew and loved, that's for sure.

Took me a while but their new album finally grew up on me. One of the best albuns of this year for Shoe/Blackgaze enjoyers for sure.

Wildhund sounds more like a Deftones, HUM, Cave In, Sleep Token or The Contortionist album, and i love it.

Что бы ни говорили ортодоксы, группа растёт и развивается, и я сейчас наверное скажу крамолу - выпускает пока лучший на данный момент свой альбом.

album sounds great - love the guitars, vocals, and the drums are interesting. it's extremely unoriginal though, since it mostly just sounds like a hum/deftones mix. the modern vapour/glitch/wave/whatever album that comes with the special edition is worth a listen if you guys haven't heard it. i think the very best parts of the album are where the electronics mix with the rock instruments - but these moments are quite rare. will mention that i really like the way the kick drum massively compresses the cymbals, that's not something you ever hear on a rock/metal album, but it sounds really nice here.

New album is a banger. Seven years I have waited for a follow up! I just started to assume they broke up. Too cool.

the other day I was like "what the hell happened to lantlôs?" even thought perhaps they were never coming back, then i went on youtube and searched for azure chimes and i saw that they had literally just released a new album because the new tracks also showed up. haven't listened to the album yet, only checked out some songs, but i liked them. lake fantasy is <3

I didn’t like this album as much as I thought I would, I love Lantlos since the black metal days to their light and almost proggy Melting Sun which is my fave til now but I feel like Wildhund is missing something, feels kind of “not finished” to me, the only song I enjoyed the most was Planetarium, probably it will grow on me with time idk

На протяжении альбома меня периодически посещало ощущение, что ещё немного, и начнётся "Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me". 6/10

Some of the singles sounded disjointed and almost bad, but in an album they sound really cohesive and enjoyable. I didn't like black metal Lantlôs at all, but I'm all in for the Wildhund

black metal fanboys will be disappointed obviously but Wildhund is very good album in its own way. Neon was great, but Melting sun was a pure class so Markus evolve its ideas (like all these breakdowns in Jade Fields). Listening to black metal for years I'm also little bit tired of it so Wildhund is a fresh air to me. Yeah, new album is not so mindblowing and solid like Melting sun but it's still great record and I'm super happy to hear some new songs after these long 7 years

black metal fanboys won't even be here lmao. but how fresh the air is? i believe i heard quite a lot of similar vibes to alcest's shelter, and just not so good as the latter. i'll suggest trying some other alt pop stuff if you really wanna fresh air after "listening to black metal for years".

Junius are tight. I remember enjoying their later output more than the earlier stuff but they're worth revisiting all the same, I think.

"black metal fan boys" I'm a listener of black metal among many other genres even lana del rey lol, so I'm very open and I understand structure and cohesiveness in music, this new album just falls on top of itself tripping over itself in quite a few songs, they just do not flow well

u have 4k steve roach scrobbles. impressive for an artist with such long pieces. i tried listening to some stuff of his on youtube, trying to get a lil bit into ambient stuff. didn't quite do it for me, but i'm 100% aware that it's on me, it has nothing to do with his work. i'm simply not that familiar with ambient stuff yet, specially pure ambient. i'm still on that ambient techno shit, like aphex twin and the likes. but i remember how long it took for me to enjoy selected ambient works 85-92 thoroughly. nowadays i might put it and listen to it all at once on one sitting and by the end be like "oh, it's over already?"

I guess my expectations were for the songs to all sound like the singles, or it was coz i was a bit drunk and didn't give it a proper sober chance lol.. im excited to actually have time to sit down and listen properly though.. Yeah steve roach really helps my anxiety, if you look at the songs i've listened to from him they're insanely relaxing..

first impressions on the new album; its very good, but they also used the three best songs as previews. i like the alt-pop influences and love how the label mentions devin townsend. could have been way too kitschy with the direction but despite all the glitter its very carefully crafted so i can roll with the layers the record has. the opener is the best track tho.

Looks like everyone is pretty upset with the new album, eh? The singles painted an accurate picture of what we were going to get, I thought. I don't think it's quite as nuanced or atmospheric as Melting Sun, but Wildhund is actually scratching a bit of a pop itch for me. Which means metal purists are probably going to hate it, but I still think there's some fantastic ideas on this thing. Everything blended a bit on the first spin but round 2 treated me a lot better, and brought some more identifiable moments to the surface.

People definitely complained about the direction taken on Melting Sun; Wildhund is like its predecessor but even further away from .Neon and Agape - with hooks, extra fuzz, and straightforward song-writing. I'm only disappointed because Melting Sun is wonderful and I miss that album's slow build-up(s) and continuity. Otherwise, Wildhund is solid and I'm probably going to listen to it a lot this summer.

Personally I didn't like Lantlôs before Wildhund lol I'm pretty glad about this new album, although I didn't like some of the singles. The album as whole though is amazing and extremely cohesive

I don’t know if I’m really hearing any Hum outside of the gazey guitars. New album is a little too nü and upbeat for that comparison – those “Deftones meets Junius” comments above, though, are pretty much on point.

No? Listen to the guitars again, especially. They've got the chug you'd find on Diamond Eyes and everything after, shined with that same nü polish.

Ah maybe that's it, usually when I compare things to Deftones it's based on the vocals.

For me, the comparison only really goes as far as the guitar tones. Vocally, yeah… Markus isn't even in the same league as Chino. I’m not convinced they're even playing the same sport.

Far from it, Deafheaven are gods and every album rocks. New Lantlôs album is, however, meh and forgetable. Not a bit close to Melting Sun. Such a waste of 7 years... ;_;
