Wow, what a powerful message. "When they say REPENT, REPENT, I wonder what they meant". What a scathing review of the degradation of our culture, especially the youth. There is no sin, no order, no boundaries anymore, so repentance is a foreign concept to them. This song is upbeat, but it makes me so sad for humanity. The Future is a fantastic album overall, I think "Democracy" is my next favorite song on the album. "Get ready for the future, it is murder!"

containing the theme about the apocalypse in Mr.Cohen's vision, which is expressed by a high-degree of metaphorical words, the song called "The Future" is one of his masterpieces.

VelBG, there's a lot more predicted on his album The Future than what's in the lyrics. That's all I'll say. This is a brilliant, beautiful, tear-jerking song which, along with Democracy and Anthem, make up the gems of my absolutely favourite Leonard Cohen album.

I've actually always appreciated Leonard's slightly faster tempo songs a bit more

And there's an endless roadway, everyone birthing and being born, eating, dying like lover-suicides and fucking like murderers. NBK outro.
