Outstanding, brilliant masterpiece. Also a grower. Requires multiple listens to fully appreciate what it has to offer. But when it clicks - it really hits, you are a goner. Favourite tracks - Bonneville, Weight of Disaster, Leashes, Captive❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Nah, with Pitfalls and now Aphelion released, it's the weakest Leprous record

Melina from a song writing standpoint is the worst. I can agree that Aphelion is too safe and I would argue that Leprous is trying to Appeal to the mainstream with it. I think my problem with Malina is production. The dynamics are off and it all sounds too soft. From Einars singing to the times it speeds up, it all sounds like it got compressed together and the album just puts you to sleep for that reason. The songwriting is also not that interesting.

Unfortunately, just as I was getting into it, I started to get bored of it. There's definitely some good tracks here, but others I find myself skipping over on repeat listens.

Ikr. you start rocking out to the masterpiece that is Mirage but then you get a fucking Malina. Really disappointing, up and downs all the way through the album.

wow, Malina is a passage into the last chorus. Is a fucking underrated masteripiece. has the same role than distant bells or on hold

While perhaps stripped down compared to their earlier releases, I think it's their most heartfelt album. Einar sounds incredible and Baard's drumming is amazing. Overall I prefer their earlier stuff, but this album is an incredibly expressive soundscape, I think the band accomplished what they wanted to do.

What does that even mean? You're dead because it's so good or because it's so bad?

Because it's so good. I would feel pissed off if it was so bad, then come here and write an angry comment.

"Illuminate" is actually my favourite song from the album. I really like that syncopated beat and guitar, which has become a trademark sound for Leprous (for example, they use the same thing in "The Valley" and "The Price").

Well after writing it down the song actually started to grow on me a bit. Still.. it doesn't get on the level of those songs you mentioned for example. There just isn't enough variation in Illuminate - I think that's my problem with it (same for Last Milestone). Yes that beat and riff is their thing and it's cool, but it's pretty much the only thing going on for four minutes except the vocals (which are quite catchy, I have to admit that). However, that's too sparse for me...especially when comparing it to something like The Valley where it was used to build up tension and atmosphere. Whatever, I'm okay with it now. Not a great song, but a good one.

I completely agree with you. Even though 'Illuminate" is my favourite song from "Malina" (though lately "Mirage" is slowly and steadily moving up to take its place, and it's a better song overall), it's nowhere near the other two songs I mentioned. In fact, this album comes quite short when compared to their previous efforts. I still like ir, but "Malina" feels like a stripped down version of the Leprous we're used to know.

I guess I finally had the moment where it "clicked". Aside from the singles I really like Mirage and Leashes. Illuminate feels like one of the most uninspired songs I've heard from them though.

A fantastic follow-up to The Congregation. Still hope to see them incorporate more of their extreme elements though!
