“doomsday” was released as the first single for Lizzy McAlpine's sophomore studio album five seconds flat following her When The World Stopped Moving EP. Like many of her tracks, it is a breakup song.

The song was released alongside a music video. A grim and gifted retelling of heartbreak, “doomsday” is McAlpine’s latest work, and a story of a love that lies beneath the elms. McAlpine carries her heart and mind through a graphic retelling of heartbreak.

Lizzy has shared very little about the exact background of the song, and although not much explanation is needed, she did quote singer-songwriter, Ella Jane, saying:

"my ex (who "doomsday" is about) did this. red flags all over that one".

“This song is about being in a relationship that is so toxic that you know it’s doomed and preparing yourself for that eventuality. It’s heavy in funeral metaphors, because heartbreak to me is like a death.” - via Atwood Magazine
