“Shimmy“ is the tenth track from Logic's debut independent and ninth overall studio album College Park. The song marks the first official collaboration of Logic and Joey Bada$$. They had previously toured together and recorded a freestyle on their tour bus in 2017. The track deviates to a trap banger to break up the album sound.

Logic metaphorically mentions his current financial state by comparing him to Wu-Tang member Ol' Dirty Bastard’s success in the late ‘90s, interpolating ODB’s classic 1995 song, “Shimmy Shimmy Ya”:

“Shimmy, shimmy, ya, shimmy, yam, shimmy, yay
Gimme the mic so I can take it away“

Logic mentions that his economy and life have changed a lot since he got into the rap game, being able—in this case—to eat food and drink water comfortably, without the need for an EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card, since he before lived a childhood with poverty in suburban Maryland, which he would necessary got one of these cards for his well-being.

During an Apple Music interview on 2018, Logic reflects on how he went from being in poverty to have a “life-changing” moment when he signed with Def Jam:

“'I woke up and I realized how much money I amassed. It’s not necessarily about things monetarily… but I woke up and was like, ‘I never have to do anything for the rest of my life.’“
