Just another dope track off MF DOOM’s debut album, it samples “Black Cow” by Steely Dan, a famous jazz-rock band. Also this song seems to be an homage to Zev Love X’s appearance on Gas Face by 3rd bass.
This could be the earliest example of a DOOM song been reused in later years of his career, as from 12/15/94 episode of The Stretch Armstrong Show DOOM (still under his Zev Love X alias) recorded a early version of “Gas Drawls” which has Doom rocking a cadence similar to what he was doing in KMD. In 1994 this the year Elektra canned Black Bastards due to the album-art controversy; Doom wouldn’t officially drop a version of this track until 1997 by which time he was spitting with a deeper, hazier flow.
