“Envy the Leaves” by Madison Beer features her being jealous of leaves and snow because they don’t have anything to live for, and nothing to care about. Beer wishes she could live her life like a leaf or a piece of snow, due to her being sick of acting like everything is fine and being optimistic, and she wants to have no worries about what life throws at her. In the second verse, Beer wishes she was naïve, so she could believe she was happy, but she admits she does not feel that way.

Sonically, the bulk of the song is minimal and slow, then for the outro of the song, the track gets to a soft rock, upbeat instrumental with harmonies from Beer.

"You know, this song was really inspired by leaves. That was the driving inspiration. … Recorded the song on like a bunch of vocal pads and stuff, and just this concept of “I envy the leaves”. … And then we went with it, and yeah, those went away, they didn’t fit anywhere in the song. … We knew the concept was something we wanted to explore, but we just did not know the direction it would end up in." – via TikTok
