@ lasalmejas - the song is ironic. It's about a woman in Thatcher's Britain who goes around with holes in her shoes, through unclean streets, etc with children to feed (a life on the breadline basically), then she meets a free-market capitalist with money who tells her the welfare state made everyone lazy but now thanks to Thatcher 'we are all bourgeois now' and there's no such thing as class anymore, which is not what you wanna hear when you're struggling! But hey, at least she's free to choose!

I never really did get the gist of the lyrics. I know McCarthy (and the Manics) are pretty far left, but if "we are all bourgeois now" wouldn't that be a bad thing to someone on the European far left? I could read it as sooner or later, everybody is seen as the enemy (bourgeois) in a socialist country, but that goes against the politics of both bands and is colored by my own. Hmmm...
