well, i dont know if craig is just trying to play around with the "cryptofa" bullshit. anyone who visited the methadrone myspace b4 may have spotted boyd rice among the top friends, himself being kind of the godfather, constantly trying to make an asshole of himself playing around with NS ideology while at the same time denying to be a Nazi and collaborating with musicians who would not really fit in that category. i cant understand how someone who makes such beautiful and deep music like Methadrone comes up with "übermenschen über gott", this just looks like a bad joke to me. some of my favorite bands like [artist]nadja[/artist] or the guy from [artist]fragment.[/artist] worked with craig, i'd like to know if they were aware of his "attitude" - or how serious it really is

I'm french and (because of the story of my country) I was disappointed when I learned that Craig flirted with all this NS stuff, but... I just can't stop listening to Methadrone. It's a little like Burzum or the Toolbiac Toads, who made a beautiful song with William Sheller ("l'Empire de Toholl"). So I go on. I hope that Methadrone will serve us a lot of new songs.

For a further example see Encyclopaedia Metallum referring to This Empty Flow (ex-members of Thergothon) as "Gothic Doom."

A thought- does anyone else get annoyed when projects (such as this) by metal musicians are called metal when they aren't? For some reason the doom and sludge tags for this piss me off because I feel like metal fans that like ambient shit are so afraid to admit they listen to something that isn't metal- doom is a stretch for this and sludge is just bullshit.

I know I'm late to return to the party, but the interview Niotku posted is indeed the one I was talking about. In addition- and this is ENTIRELY secondhand, I'm in no way saying it's necessarily true- I know a few people who know a few Incantation members personally who similarly claimed Pillard was a real-deal National Socialist. No idea if it's true but saddened if it is.

bwah, i really don't think noise and its makers have a big enough impact on society that their ideologies truly matter. and not just noise; a shitload of music doesn't. and even of my own musical heroes, i couldn't give a shit what their ideas and opinions are. and if i knew they are total bull i'd call them a nutjob and laugh at them - much like i did when i read that DeathKey interview - but i certainly wouldn't stop listening to their music. i see and handle them as complete separate aspects; but i'm sure there are lots of people who don't do that. *shrug*

coincidentally, this subject was broached on a forum I frequent.: "can you appreciate the art independent of the artist?", when I first read of the sturmfurher connection. I still like the tunes, but knowledge of adherence to an ideology which I find uncommonly distasteful makes me feel conflicted. definitely unexpected.

That's too bad. I was really into Methadrone and it evokes strong emotions from me, but not hate. I just feel very introspective. It's too bad Craig, the actual source of that music, doesn't seem to see it the same way I do.

Can you point us to that interview? I can't find anything about that, but the guy on the cover of the Sturmfuhrer page does kinda look like him. NS just doesn't fit the mood I get in while listening to Methadrone. I would be disappointed if Craig were into that.

An interview I read somewhere, he said he changed the name because it better fit the themes he was working with or something. I know he's doing Disma now but I also heard this is now called Sturmfuhrer and is themed around NS stuff.

I never listened to Lycia before seeing your comment, but after having listened a bit now, I think you are right. This is still a bit heavier, but the mood is really similar; they both have great atmosphere.
