“It’s not the note you play that’s the wrong note – it’s the note you play afterwards that makes it right or wrong.” ― Miles Davis

I use The Miles Davis Quintet/Miles Davis Quintet in the Album Artist field for recordings credited as such and Miles Davis in the Artist field. The album plays scrobble under Miles Davis Quintet while the actual plays scrobble to Miles Davis, which is how I like it. I do the same with Bill Evans Trio/Bill Evans, The John Coltrane Quartet/John Coltrane, etc. I prefer to have things strictly (some might say pedantically) categorized like that, but many others put Miles Davis Quintet in the Artist field, which I have no problem with. Not sure why it's an issue since no one is forcing you to scrobble them in a way you don't like.

Not at all. Just when I edit the track tags I put whichever variation of the overall artist's name is being used in the Album Artist field. It doesn't affect how things get scrobbled or how it appears in my library or anything. They're still organized by the artist (e.g. "Neil Young," "Neil Young with Crazy Horse," "Neil Young & the Shocking Pinks," "Neil Young & the Promise of the Real" all go under Neil Young). OCD would be having each of an artist who has issued under a dozen names scrobble separately. But yeah, I don't really care how other people organize their shit, but some people are (or were, in the case of the specific person I'm referring to) so militant about everyone having uniform charts that they get offended by the existence of Bill Evans and Bill Evans Trio, Miles Davis and Miles Davis Quintet, etc.

I'd rather be relaxin' with the Miles Davis Quintet than workin' with the Miles Davis Quintet. Did you see what I did there

2009 marks the 50th Anniversary of the original release date of Miles Davis’ Kind Of Blue. Legendary jazz drummer, Jimmy Cobb (the only surviving member from the original recording) leads a contemporary all-star band featuring Wallace Roney (trumpet), Javon Jackson (tenor saxophone), Vincent Herring (alto saxophone), Larry Willis (piano), and Buster Williams (bass.) The group will perform their interpretations of Kind of Blue’s five masterpieces: “So What”, “Freddie Freeloader”, “Blue In Green”, “All Blues”, and “Flamenco Sketches” plus other classics by Davis, John Coltrane, Julian “Cannonball” Adderley, and original compositions inspired by this era. Go to www.towerfestival.com for information and tickets
