It's funny, for me Laurel Hell was an instant hit and The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We is a slower grower, it is the opposite for so many fans (and there are still many who dislike Laurel Hell). Not sure why. Both make sense sonically and artistically, LH being a continuation of Be The Cowboy (poppy and synth-y) while TLIIASAW is a new chapter with the sound, and in many ways more hopeful album lyrically. But one thing that I do adore about TLIIASAW is that Mitski feels more comfortable in her sound and lyricism, like she's falling back in love with her art and music after the anxiety of Laurel Hell.

First listen, first impression a 10/10, would've been a 11/10 if only the songs were like a minute longer each which is a forever Mitski complaint for me it seems. I don't actually resent it, briefness is the zeitgest after all :') but I feel like her music style would lend itself to an extended runtime so well. More meandering would make me happier.

Great return to form for Mitski. Not even that her last 2 albums were that weak, but this is the follow-up to Puberty 2 I've been waiting for
