The emotional intro to Dangerous: The Double Album, “Sand in My Boots” sees Morgan recounting the story of a short-lived summer romance. The song starts off as a sparse and country-tinged piano ballad, but gradually intensifies as standard rock instruments are added.
Morgan has spoken about his connection to the song, saying:
I immediately related to because I’d been wanting to get back into my piano playing. That’s something that I did a lot of as a kid, and it was one of the first instruments I learned. A lot of my fans probably don’t know that I can play the piano, so I wanted to show a new side of me to start the album.
While the beachy ballad was still being pitched to artists, country star Luke Bryan also expressed interest in claiming the song. Morgan however, was given top priority from HARDY, his close friend and the song’s co-writer. The song’s demo was sent to Morgan on his birthday.
Morgan would go on to release “Sand in My Boots” as a single for country radio in August 2021. The song was Morgan’s comeback after his music was banned by radio stations in February 2021.
