A masterpiece, one of my top 10 albums. Not just his best solo album, but the best album he's been involved with, and that includes his former band.

His debut's my favorite but Vauxhall And I is probably the best thing he's done as a solo artist - tracks 6 and 7 have an almost semi-confessional tinge of melancholia and regret that always brings me back to this album...

The best Morrissey album. Has moments of extreme humour and extreme sadness, like his Smiths work but more mature. Excellent record!

Personally I think this album is on a par with The Queen Is Dead. Musically it's a rather mellow album, featuring acoustic guitars and/or a subdued mood on most of the tracks. Therein lies this album's strengths in my opinion. It's almost discombobulating the way the mellowness of the music gets coupled with Morrissey's bleakest lyrics to date. Anyone familiar with Morrissey will agree the lyrics on this album are the bleakest and most honest he's ever written. Now, bleak lyrics won't automatically make an album good (hello Trent Reznor), but the performance will. Enjoy.

Not only is this Morrissey's best album, the album itself is flawless. It just flows together so smoothly, while providing stand out tracks.
