"Red means run son!" Excellent song, love the historical context. Moonshining kills, remember that Jethro!

kinda funny how the best songs about the American civil war always seem to be written by Canadians...apart from getting on that ill-fated plane, the biggest mistake of Lynyrd Skynyrd`s career was turning down Powderfinger that was written for them by NY as a peace offering after pissing them off enough to inspire "sweet home Alabama"

One of my absolute favourites of Neil's along with Hurricane & Cortez the Killer. Can imagine a live version of this with an extended guitar jamming on for seemingly ever - pure bliss !!!

Is it me or does at points the vocal melody seem reminiscent of the chorus of "Sounds of Silence"?

skipspence, the lyrics on RNS are some of the best he's written - which is saying something. "I saw black and my face splashed in the sky" is poetry. My favourite line is "just think of me as one you never figured", just because of how he breaks off on the word 'figured'.

GREAT track ... Regarding remarks below .. Most artists have lyrics that are silly. I call them "Abstract" ;) - A concept which is held in high regard within visual art circles.

I also love this song but I do find the lyrics a bit silly which is a problem with most of "Rust Never Sleeps"

This SHOULD be the solo acoustic version of powderfinger which is on chrome dreams. All the other (album) versions of this track are Neil Young & Crazy Horse.
