Colder is a song written about watching people fall in love for the first time and being in awe of how fearlessly they fall. It talks about the aftermath of heartbreak and how you become a lot more cautious when it comes to falling for someone because you know the pain it can cause. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing to be colder but when you find the right person it’s important to be able to let them in.
Colder was the last song I wrote for the album. I wrote it in London with my friend Thomas (Gemini). He put down the chords, went to the kitchen to make food and left me on loop with an SM7 microphone recording. By the time he came back I’d written the topline, it just came from nowhere. It was a really easy song to write but one of the most difficult to produce because it started as a piano ballad but I wanted it to be different to stand out on the album.
