“Invincible” is Daniel Caesar and Omar Apollo’s first collaboration. The teaser for this single was first released on the 9th of February 2022 on Twitter as a taste of Omar Apollo’s debut album, Ivory.
This intimate, melodic tone embeds the complexities of queerness, love and longing. The appearance of Andrés Gudiño’s masks, a Costa Rican visual artist, helps highlights the ideas of gender and sexuality which is a recurring theme in Omar Apollo’s music as he embraces his identity as a Gay Mexican-American. Caesar’s sexuality identity isn’t clear due to the remarks made after being called “very gay” by Dave Cappelle, released on a 2019 article on Complex.
Despite the controversies that had occurred, this song continues to broaden the negative impact substance abuse has on the dynamic in a relationship and how living a legacy is an important aspect in the lives of artists and people as well.
