Pērkons (this means Thunder in Latvian) was one of the most popular and scandalous bands of 1980's in Latvia. They formed in Rīga, Latvia in 1981. Because of the bands politically sharp lyrics it was banned for some time. The lyrics of the songs were mostly poems by Māris Melgalvs and Klāvs Elsbergs. Juris Kulakovs composed the music.

Though Pērkons stopped their active work in early 1990's, the band still does some concerts from time to time.

"Pie baltas lapas" (By a White Page), "Gandrīz tautasdziesma" (Almost a Folk-song), "Mana dienišķā dziesma" (My Daily Song), "Labu vakar!" (Good evening!), "Balāde par gulbi" (A Ballad about a Swan) are some popular songs by Pērkons.

Most of the band's members are also members of the popular Latvian band "Menuets".
