Listening to this reminds me that musically McCartney was a lot more experimental then his bandmates, but not many people seem to acknowledge this...

It's usually not acknowledged because George Martin thought an experimental production fitted Lennon's and George's track better, whereas on Paul's he usually had a more conventional take (Eleanor Rigby is a notable exception). When each Beatle went solo, Paul clearly showed he was the most imaginative musician, regardless of John and George being great songwriters. That's, I think, why John went so lo-fi after the break Up.
