This has grown to be my second favourite favourite Pavement album (after Wowee Zowee of course)

A perfect final album. I don't know why people don't "get it", I think it's awesome and they sound really mature here, I just love it.

Took me a while to like this album, it's a grower, unlike all their other albums.

I don't even remember why I thought this was a lesser work. Most of the songs are highly memorable with amazing hooks, and Nigel Godrich's production suits the material surprisingly well. Maybe I just had to get older to appreciate it.

I've always been puzzled as to why so many people basically ignore its existence. I think it's an excellent album and is one of my favorites these days. I agree about the production. I don't hear the "overproduction" I've occasionally seen mentioned re: his work on this one at all. I was just checking around to see if there's going to be or had been already (I haven't followed the news or lack thereof about Pavement much in the past few years) a deluxe edition in the vein of Luxe & Reduxe et al. I guess the antipathy toward the record extends to the band and/or Matador as well.

The band proposed a tracklist for the deluxe edition back in 2009, but Matador thought it wasn't the moment to reissue it. Maybe they were looking forward to the greatest hits and the reunion tour... anyway, it's never been picked up again. Spiral and SM spoke about it in the Pitchfork interview about the Secret History vinyl series - another abandoned project

Thanks for the info. Had never heard about that. Unfortunate-- would've been cool to get an expanded reissue for it.

Nice rebound after Brighten the Corners, which to my ears isn't a very good album. On the other hand, this sounds like -- and in many ways is -- essentially a Malkmus solo record. It also doesn't sound like anyone is having any fun recording it, which from what I've read no one was. Still, the songwriting is good and that's always been the draw of this band.

I've given this album a few listens and it doesn't seem to click with me besides Spit on a Stranger and Carrot Rope. Maybe I should give it another listen someday.

hate to be a negative nancy here, but that re-issue has been 'in the works' for over 4 years now

this album gets weaker by the minute after it peaks at "Ann Don't Cry". And yeah, the above track listing is incorrect.

In my humble opinion, the best album. "The Hexx" and "Cream of Gold" are fucking awesome!

I don't get it at all. Terror Twilight is the best Pavement album. No arguement to be had. It has so much more scope and weight thatn the rest. It's sort of menacing under the surface, utterly beautiful in parts - just has a very colourful, ethereal yet tangible vibe. Wake up.

Very underrated album, it gets a lot of hate because it is easily the least "Pavementish" of their albums. Sounds more like Radiohead production wise (well obviously, look at the producer). Very ambitious for them and a fantastic album

I like every Pavement album, but I cannot comprehend why anyone would have this as their favourite. It's not "so very 90s" either, unless '99 is more 90s than earl-mid 90s. I would be excited to hear the unreleased stuff that every other album has been treated to, though. Brighten the Corners b-sides really impressed me.
