I watched him play this on his last American tour, in Chicago’s United Center. The intro and outro was so, I won’t say loud though it was indeed loud, but it was certainly something beyond then what I’ve seen achieved through headphones or a decent home sound system. I realized what it was Pete Townshend said of watching Hendrix, that it was more sound but that you really didn’t experience the full genius until you saw him play for yourself. The whole night was like that honestly but in that performance of the song (and to me more crucially, how tight those versions from the 94 tour are) I got the feeling that a lot of us do that it’s maybe one of his best pieces of music. Not so much in either version of AMLOR but live. Jesus, live it’s as epic a barn burner as perhaps expected of the band but is a particular peak overall of just how special a musician he is.

The live versions are so much better than the studio version, in my opinion at least.
