Welp. Kind of a letdown. First album to come out since I discovered them that comes out during my time, but it's too steeped in Wilson's solo preferences and not what the band used to sound like. I understand, artists evolve, and there is still plenty of skill / talent in the sound, it's just not as emotionally gripping as the 90-2000s stuff. Maybe noted two tracks on the first listen, and I can't recall which. Maybe Dignity?

I've given enough listens to say that this album is really something for PT. I have a bit of an odd relationship with this band as I was a fan of SW solo first, and will pretty much always prefer his much better written solo albums. That being said this is one of the few PT albums which has enough vertical complexity and strong writing to perhaps at least stand up to some of this guys solo work. Great album that sounds distinctly different from other PT albums.

For something this long in the making, it doesn’t feel laborious and actually feels more artistically satisfying approaching a kind of decent relevance to the way art is being approached in the aftermath of so much of the world and particularly the music business being shaken to the core by the pandemic. It’s not breaking new ground but perhaps in reshaping this band into something different the same way In Absentia did, there can be new life and vitality to the music the way a lot of us know that their records then and now have. And if this is truly their last effort, it’s a good one to sign off on. I’m a little skeptical to that position being taken by Wilson in interviews, but I’ll have to wait and see like everyone including the band themselves, if this is how it comes to pass.

Love You To Bits and The Future Bites are both much better than this (especially the first).

Great album, pure joy of listening. In some tracks you can definitely hear reminiscence of Raven, HCE and even Storm Corrosion eras. Its Stevens musical DNA obviously (as he stated in some interwiev) and we all love it.

Seems like my favorite tracks are found on the special edition side of the album. 'Never Have' and 'Love In The Past Tense' are my go to songs when I first start streaming during the day. All in all the album starts to open up to me more after a couple of listens (which is what always tends to happen with any record, lol). Guess what I'm trying to say is that it really is a good album!

Gets better with every listen but it's probably one of their worst (which means it's still a pretty good album). I remember reading that Wilson wanted to "end the band on a strong note" - and that's great cause C/C is definitely not a strong note

Hard to believe that i'm experiencing a new Porcupine Tree album on the day of its release...almost surreal
