I associate this with the time it ran on Jim Ladd’s XM show on the way to see King Crimson in Chicago. Had a kick telling my brother the drummer on this awesome song was in the band we were about to see.

If last.fm had a dislike button this would be one of the most trashbin worthy comments.

He is right though. This song is phenomenal, yet for some reason the more casual fans only acknowledge this song as far as the epic's go in Porcupine Trees discography.

What I don't get is comments mentioning Open Car and this song in the same sentence. That song is nowhere close to the brilliance of the longer songs on this very album, like The Start of Something Beautiful, Deadwing or Arriving Somewhere... Thinking a bit about it it seems to me that these listeners indeed just want music to pass their time and not much more than that; the capacity to appreciate good music is beyond them I would reckon, at least as far as Porcupine Tree is concerned. And if you call yourself a rock/ metal fan that renders you quite irrelevant in that domain more or less.

couldn’t disagree more. open car is an incredibly crafted track. doesn’t have to be long to be an absolute masterclass in songwriting. it’s my second favourite on the album after arriving somewhere. it’s not the same type of song, but for the type of song it is, it achieves what it tries to do absolutely spot on, as does arriving somewhere. it is further enhanced live with the extra riffs in the middle. it’s a perfect song for me, and trying to diminish people’s opinions because they like a song more than you do is just pretentious and childish.

Монументальная вещь. Обычно не люблю затянутые прог-композиции, но тут всё выстроено гармонично, звучит интересно все 12 минут и при этом запоминается.

I find myself singing along without realising I started, absolutely gorgeous, and even moreso live.

This has to be the best progressive rock song in the world. (no not really), I love the song, but to me PT has better songs.
